Package Usability Testing
Package usability assessment has become increasingly critical as products diversify and user expectations evolve. Current data shows that up to 40% of consumer complaints about products stem from packaging-related issues, with particular challenges in areas like opening mechanisms, content extraction, and resealing functionality. These usability concerns directly impact both user satisfaction and product integrity.
The fundamental challenge lies in balancing secure product protection with intuitive, accessible user interaction across diverse demographic groups and usage scenarios.
This page brings together solutions from recent research—including flexible tab retention systems, curved interior surfaces for controlled dispensing, demographic-specific visual indicators, and integrated resealable extraction mechanisms. These and other approaches demonstrate how thoughtful design can enhance both product protection and user experience while maintaining manufacturing feasibility.
1. Circular Cleaning Cloth Packaging with Folded-End Retention and Central Short Outlet Design
BNC CO LTD, 2023
Compact packaging design for circular cleaning cloths that enables easy removal of individual cloths and resealing of the package. The packaging folds the cloth at both ends to reduce size. The folded ends are enclosed in a shorter central outlet area. This allows pulling out one cloth without unraveling the stack. The folded ends also prevent adjacent cloths from being pulled out. The short outlet length facilitates extraction. After initial removal, the lower folded end can partially protrude. The outlet shape aids distinction and grasping of the folded ends. The outlet can be sealed with a cover.
